Math Placement
A qualifying A.C.T. or WSU Math Placement test score is a requirement for enrollment in Math 012 (Intermediate Algebra), Math 111 (College Algebra), or Math 131 (Contemporary Mathematics), in addition to course prerequisites.
Students are eligible to enroll in Math 007 or Math 011 without an A.C.T. or Math Placement test score.
With the appropriate A.C.T. or Math Placement score AND prerequisite coursework, students may enroll as follows:
Math 007
ACT math score of 15 or less & no high school algebra
Math 011
A.C.T. math score of 16-17 & no high school algebra
Math 012
A.C.T. math score of 18-19 or qualifying WSU placement score AND
1 year of high school algebra or the equivalent
Math 111 or Math 131
A.C.T. math score of 20 & above or qualifying WSU placement score AND
2 years of high school algebra or the equivalent
Math 112 or 123
A.C.T. math score of 20 & above or qualifying WSU placement score AND
2 years of algebra, 1 year geometry
(Note: Math 111 + 123 is the equivalent of Math 112)
Math 242Q (Business majors may take Math 144)
A.C.T. math score of 20 & above or qualifying WSU placement score AND
2 years algebra + 1 year geometry, + ½ year Trigonometry: (all "C" average or better)
Placement exam scores from other universities cannot be used to satisfy the WSU placement exam prerequisite. Transfer students must meet these same requirements.
It is the students responsibility to provide verification of A.C.T. Math score or Math Placement test results when requested.
College credit is not awarded for Math 011 or 012. They are offered only on a credit/non-credit grading basis.
Math O11 may be used in place of one unit of high school algebra;
Math 012 may be used in place of the 2nd year of high school algebra.
Students not meeting prerequisites for placement in Math 012, Math 111, or Math 131 may be transferred to an appropriate level or administratively withdrawn.
